DAY 3 Vikings of Roskilde, Nyborg & Odense
Breakfast at the hotel.
Departure for Roskilde, which celebrated its 1000th anniversary in
1998. You can visit its cathedral, listed as a world heritage site by
UNESCO. Then, follow in the footsteps of the Vikings, from 793 to 1069, by visiting the Viking Museum (entrance included), located on the edge of the fjord, which notably exhibits a warship 31 meters long, the longest ever found.
At the end of your discoveries, get back on the road and cross the
Storebælt bridge which connects Sjælland to Funen.
Along the way, stop at Nyborg on the other side of the bridge; a hidden gem, a historic royal city dating back to the early Middle Ages. If time allows you, we recommend taking the 3,1 km hike along the historic ramparts through fortress of the Middle Ages, the Renaissance and dictatorship. A journey that goes through more than 800 years of history through palisades, moats, bastions, barrages and gates.

DAY 4 Kolding, Ribe, Esbjerg & Fanø
Breakfast at the hotel.
Start your day by exploring Koldinghus – a 750-year-old castle with national significance, today a modern museum and a world-class attraction with an award-winning restoration and international exhibitions.
Later depart towards Ribe, the oldest town in the kingdom. From
here trading between Scandinavia and the rest of Europe began,
followed by the spreading of Christianity, with Ribe maintaining its
greatness well into the Middle Ages. Denmark is famous for its
Vikings, and from Ribe their wooden ship set out into Europe to trade and spread terror as well. This dramatic early history is in evidence in many city locations. Today, there is a peaceful, cosy ambience everywhere - in the pedestrian street, the art museum, the abbey and the old eateries.
From Ribe, take a short drive to Esbjerg – the getaway to the West,
where you can visit the giant sculpture ‘Man Meets the Sea’ – a
popular site to visit for travellers. The sculpture, made of white
concrete, portrays the meeting between pure, unspoilt mankind and nature.
In the afternoon, cross by ferry from Esbjerg Harbor to the island of Fanø (crossing takes 12 minutes, departure every half an hour). The vast majority of Fanø is pure nature, all of which is part of the
Wadden Sea National Park. So even during the busiest time in the
summer, you will have no problem getting around or even finding
secluded parts of the beautiful island. Experience the amazing bird
and animal life with seals, deer and rabbits.
The two historical maritime villages of Nordby and Sønderho exude
an incredible atmosphere and captivating nostalgia. This is also
where you will find most of the island's lovely shops, talented local
artisans, great restaurants and cafes.
If you are into sports and action, the beaches of Fanø are unrivalled
as a unique location for surfing, beach cruising, horseback riding, kite flying and much more.
