here trading between Scandinavia and the rest of Europe began,
followed by the spreading of Christianity, with Ribe maintaining its
greatness well into the Middle Ages. Denmark is famous for its
Vikings, and from Ribe their wooden ship set out into Europe to trade and spread terror as well. This dramatic early history is in evidence in many city locations. Today, there is a peaceful, cosy ambience everywhere - in the pedestrian street, the art museum, the abbey and the old eateries.
From Ribe, take a short drive to Esbjerg – the getaway to the West

Wadden Sea National Park. So even during the busiest time in the
summer, you will have no problem getting around or even finding
secluded parts of the beautiful island. Experience the amazing bird
and animal life with seals, deer and rabbits.
The two historical maritime villages of Nordby and Sønderho exude
an incredible atmosphere and captivating nostalgia. This is also
where you will find most of the island's lovely shops, talented local
artisans, great restaurants and cafes.
If you are into sports and action, the beaches of Fanø are unrivalled
as a unique location for surfing, beach cruising, horseback riding, kite flying and much more.
