Zealand

Zealand Island is the biggest island in Denmark. It's a region full of history and culture, with beautiful fjords, fields and forests, charming medieval towns and cosy fishing villages. Plus miles of white sand beaches, clean sea waters, cycle friendly roads, and a whole lot more.

Copenhagen the Capital of Denmark
Copenhagen Capital of Denmark is located on the east side of the Island.

The city is one of Europe's oldest capitals with a royal touch - the monarchy in Denmark is the oldest in the world!

A slogan for new houses "There's something modern in the state of Denmark", a paraphrase on the well-known Shakespearian quote from Hamlet, somehow encapsulates the spirit of the youthful dynamism present in Copenhagen. Discover it, mirrored in the walls of Black Diamond, but pay also attention to all those historical architectural pearls such as the Royal Castle Amalienborg and Church of Our Saviour with a golden staircase and golden spire.

Visit Louisiana, Arken and Glyptotek - all on the top among art museums in Europe; take a walk towards the Gefion Fountain, Copenhagen's own Fontana di Trevi, and see how the Little Mermaid is doing...! Tivoli, the amusement park with class and charm, right in the middle of the city, is a "must", too.

There is more: have a Carlsberg beer (the best, obviously) in one of many beer cafés by the canal in Nyhavn, or visit the Carlsberg Brewery, to learn about the origins of the world famous Danish beer.

These are truly exciting, cool and very enjoyable places to visit.

Cities of Zealand
Elsinore is one of the best preserved medieval towns here in Denmark. Charming and picturesque with timber framed houses, narrow cobblestone lanes, pedestrian streets, and a busy harbour with ferries to Sweden. Home of the famous Kronborg Castle.

Hillerød is a provincial town, located in the northern part of Zealand Island. It's surrounded by the beautiful Grib Forest and Esrum Lake. On three islets in the center of Hillerød you find the old, magnificent Frederiksborg Castle and the baroque Frederiksborg Castle Gardens.

Kalundborg is an old harbour town, dating back to around 1170. It's located on the west coast of Zealand Island. Well known for the unique five-towered medieval Church of Our Lady. The old quarter of the town has narrow cobblestone streets and well preserved half timbered houses.

Roskilde is an ancient town dating back to the Viking Age. It's a very fascinating town with lots of attractions, such as the impressive Roskilde Cathedral with its twin towers, the popular Viking Ship Museum, and the annual Roskilde Festival, that attracts thousands from all over the world.

Skovshoved lies at the scenic Beach Road that runs along the coast of Øresund. Once a small fishing village. Today a fashionable place for more wealthy people. The fishing harbour has been replaced by a yacht harbour. But many of the old thatched houses and narrow lanes still exist.

 Welcome to Zealand
