Denmark

Denmark is the oldest of the Scandinavian monarchies. Once a majestic world power - known as the kingdom where the sun never sets; with land possessions as far away as Greenland and the West Indies - Denmark is today recognized as an innovative and modern society where fashion and design plays a significant role.

The Danish People
The Danes are proud people and they exhibit this pride in many ways. When traveling in Denmark foreigners are often surprised by the extensive use of the Danish flag even among private people. The flag is used to demonstrate joy and celebration and is for many Danes the most important symbol of "Danishness"are widely associated with the Danish culture, and even though there is much more to Denmark than this, the Vikings play a significant role in the tale of Danish history.

History and Landmarks
This tale is told in the famous Viking Museum in the town of Roskilde close to the capital, Copenhagen. Roskilde also hosts the largest Danish Cathedral which is definitely worth a visit.

In many ways Copenhagen is the cultural and historical center of Denmark with world-recognized landmarks such as the little mermaid, Tivoli and Amalienborg
- the royal residence. Nevertheless, Denmark can offer many interesting sights outside of the Copenhagen area. Guests can visit the unique open air museum in Århus, witness the unique phenomenon of two encountering oceans in Skagen
- the most northern point in Denmark, or familiarize themselves with the life of the famous Danish writer Hans Christian Andersen in his childhood home in the historical quarter in Odense.

Children
For children or people with a vivid imagination a visit to Legoland near Billund is definitely worth while. Legoland is an amusement park where you will find a whole "universe" constructed in Lego bricks!

Hans Christian Andersen has more than anyone contributed to the image of Denmark as being a fairytale country, and though Denmark is a modern community in many ways, this fairytale association will always be a part of the Danish culture and is widely acknowledged by the people who visit Denmark.
